History of Christ Church

Christ Church was established on September 12, 1993 with the goal of being “a new beacon” for those disconnected from the church. Our mission was and still is to be an inviting, growing, and living presence in our community and beyond.  The first new Episcopal congregation in the Richmond area in more than 30 years, Christ Church met at two local schools until 1998, when we received a generous gift of land from an anonymous benefactor. Through a capital campaign and the Grace of God, Christ Church moved on our current campus in 1999 and our facilities and ministries have grown and thrived over the years.

In 2013 we bid farewell to the Rev. Paul Johnson, our Founding Rector, as he departed to found a new parish in Texas. After an interim period, we called the Rev. Shirley Smith Graham to serve as our Rector begining in September 2015. Rev. Shirley is leading us on an exciting journey as we experience God working in this community, and you are invited to come along!
