We ask, and are asked, this question on a regular basis. The Men's Ministry of Christ Church grew out of a belief that men have a valued and important part in God's work at Christ Church. We believe that the stresses men face coupled with our inability to talk about the struggles we face with people who do not face the same struggles needed to be addressed. A core group of dedicated men began the Friday Morning Bible Study. From that group, the idea formed that we needed to create a stronger bond between the Men of Christ Church and the men of our community. Therefore we decided to try a Men's breakfast.
Our hope was that 20 or so men would accept our invitations to join us for breakfast. Instead, 45 men of Christ Church showed up. During that meeting we learned that almost everyone present wanted to have a more regular time where we could come together for fellowship and growth. Out of that meeting a team was formed to provide a structure for a more regular meeting. In the fall of 2008, we began a three part series on "Weathering the Storms of Life". By the end of the series over 60 of the men of Christ Church were coming together on one Saturday morning a month for fellowship and growth. We realized that there was a need for a Men's Ministry. That is why we have a Men's Ministry at Christ Church.
The more we met the more we realized that when men are among men, connections occur that might not otherwise happen. From those connections, relationships grow and out of those relationships, we begin to understand that the problems we face with our faith, our work lives, our children, and our marriages are the same problems that others face.
In March of 2009 the men of Christ Church advanced (we don't know how to Retreat) to Richmond Hill for a look at "A CHRISTIAN MAN’S TOOLBOX FOR TIMES OF STRESS". A key theme during the Advance was that we needed more time to talk with our brothers. We decided the first step was to create a small group to see how this might happen.
Our vision is to continue to be an instrument for God to help create better Christian Men, and better Christian husbands, fathers, and friends. If you would like to join us in our journey, please feel free to contact one of the leadership committee or just show up for a breakfast or a bible study.
