Pastoral Care is about our community of faith being responsive to each other’s needs, cares, concerns, and joys.

Illness?  Unexpected obstacle in life? Death of a loved one? We all need support and care sometimes. There are several ways to get in touch with clergy or our trained pastoral caregivers in times of need. If you’d like us to pray for you, submit a prayer concern or call the church office. If you find yourself hospitalized or suffering an acute, sudden illness, please call our office at 804-364-0394 or our Pastoral Care After Hours Line at 804-405-1295 and you’ll reach one of the clergy.

Life is better, together! These days, families come in all shapes, sizes, and include people across the life span. The Family Care support group is for anyone who is caring for a family member -- aging parent, adult children, young children, grandchildren, and more. Join us for a casual time of listening to and supporting one another. Led by licensed practioner Terri Becker-Fritz, this group is open to all--just drop in as you're able. A snack lunch is provided, supplied by group members on a rotating basis. Contact the Rev. Darren Steadman for more information. Next meeting: August 11, 12:15-1:45 PM, Education Building Room 207

The Christ Church "Sisters of Bethany" Prayer Shawl Ministry has been meeting since 2004 and together they've made countless prayer shawls, blankets, newborn hats, and even stoles for all of our graduating seniors. Each item is a beautiful work of art, lovingly made and blessed before it is passed along. Click here to read a personal witness from a prayer shawl minister. If you would like a prayer shawl for yourself or someone else, please contact the church office. All are welcome to join the ministry for their monthly knitting/crocheting sessions. No experience necessary! Come learn more about making prayer shawls, enjoy the fellowship of others, and be a part of a special community that offers tangible signs of God's Love. Contact lay leader Linda Walton for more details.

As people of faith we extend our caregiving to our families, workplaces, and community. A few years ago, Christ Church re-imagined its pastoral care ministry and formed a cohort of trained pastoral caregivers as part of Community of Hope, International. Since then, these compassionate listeners have served individuals facing illness, divorce, substance abuse, and death. In small and large ways, these caregivers have made a difference in other’s lives. Each year at Christ Church, a new cohort of lay pastoral caregivers is trained through 14 in-depth sessions on topics such as Listening Skills, Pastoral Visits and Boundaries, Confidentiality, Understanding Family Systems, Grief and Coping with Loss. Caregivers are available to our community and provide support and care in a variety of ways. Click here to learn more and contact the Rev. Darren Steadman for additional information.

Members of our pastoral care ministry work to ensure that no one walks this journey alone. Clergy and laity are available to offer prayer, comfort, meals, transportation, and can bring the Eucharist to those in need. If you need help of any kind, please call the church office or reach out to our clergy.

If you need immediate assistance, please call the church office at (804) 364-0394 or our after-hours line at (804) 405-1295.
