What is The Big Listen?
As God’s people we are called to be ever vigilant, listening for what He has to say to us about our lives and community. We are called to do this individually and collectively. Several times throughout our 18 years we have taken time to deliberately stop, converse and listen, to each other to discern what God’s will is for us. It’s time to do that again, and this time we’re calling it the Big Listen: Christ Church at 21. We will be thinking and talking about how God is calling us as we approach our 21st birthday in 2014.
Come join the conversation as we write the next chapter in the book called, The Story of Christ Church and ponder these questions:
Tell about a time when you have experienced Christ Church at its best.
-When have you witnessed, or been energized by, the Holy Spirit moving through our church? How did it make you feel? What did it move you to do?"
How would you describe Christ Church today?
-Describe Christ Church to a friend who doesn't know us. What is the first thing that comes to mind--worship, youth, children, music, outreach? Or is it adjectives like inviting, caring, late-starting?
In your dreams, what would Christ Church look like in three years...for us and for our community?
-Imagine there's a prophecy written in the Bible which revealed God's plans for Christ Church. What would it be? Are we a shining church on a hill or are we to be a people sent out into the world?
What do you believe God is calling Christ Church to do?
What happens with all this information?
The team appointed by the Vestry to oversee the Big Listen will be doing a number of things: gathering demographic data from members and available from other sources about the larger community, collecting the summarized commentary from all Big Listen events, analyzing all this information, and then reporting a summary to the Vestry and congregation. The Vestry, Staff, and Ministry Leaders will use this report repeatedly in the months and years ahead as it makes important decisions about Christ Church.
Children age 4-5th grade: Concurrent sessions will be held for children on each date. Childcare will be provided for children under age 4.
