 > UPDATE NOVEMBER 2018 <

At Christ Church our vision is to “Be the Church.” We seek to live into this vision by being the heart and hands of Jesus, providing radical hospitality, and nurturing spiritual formation. The strategic use of our church campus—its facilities and land--is an essential element in our efforts to “Be the Church.” Each and every day, we open our facilities and welcome in the people of Christ Church as well as our neighbors throughout western Henrico and metropolitan Richmond. We house scout troops, shelter the homeless, preach the word, teach little ones, and so much more.

We can host these and many other good and Godly works, because for twenty-five years we have been blessed with wise stewards among us who have marshaled the resources and led the development of the campus we now call home. Just as the community around Christ Church has changed over the years, so have our needs and the needs of our neighbors. So the time has come to ask: how would God have us utilize—and perhaps further develop—our campus over the next ten years to respond faithfully to these needs?

Accordingly, the Vestry asked the Rector to empanel a “Ten Year Master Plan” working group to guide this discernment process and deliver to them a set of recommendations regarding the future use of our land and facilities. We anticipate that the work group will provide its final report to the vestry by June 30, 2019.  The working group has been in conversation with the congregation through a series of listening sessions and will continue to provide updates on the work they seek to accomplish, as well as the process and timeline they will follow. Thank you for joining us in these sessions and please click the links above to view them.

OUR PRAYER
Thank you, God, for loving us so much that you bestow upon us the gracious gift of stewardship, entrusting to us the wise use of your creation and its abundance. We are amazed and humbled by your faith in us. Guide us, Lord, as we seek to honor your love for us by showing love to one another as well as to our neighbors in Short Pump and all of metropolitan Richmond. Give us eyes to see and ears to hear all thy wondrous works that occur daily in and among us within the walls of our Christ Church buildings. Within these walls tears are shed and words of comfort are whispered. Within these walls merit badges are earned, songs are sung, addictions are confronted, little ones learn their ABCs, your word is preached, adults grow deeper in their faith, teenagers become best friends, and the homeless sleep safely. Father, keep our hearts open to our needs and the needs of our neighbors; keep our minds open to the possibilities presented to us in these buildings and this land. And give us the courage, Lord, in your good time, to create realities out of those possibilities. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done. - Amen
