George Mason Elementary School

"And what does the Lord require of us, but to do justice, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with our God?" - Micah 6:8

For many years, Christ Church has been in partnership with George Mason Elementary School in historic Church Hill. Members of our church volunteer at this school in a variety of ways (see below for specific volunteer roles.) We also host a school supplies collection drive each fall so that we can provide GMES students with these necessities at the beginning of each school year. Finally, we host an ice cream party and book fair at the end of the school-year so the students can celebrate the year’s accomplishments and recieve a bag of books to take home for summer reading.

Richmond Public Schools serve the most distressed portion of our metropolitan city’s school-aged population. George Mason Elementary School, in particular, is in a state of devastating disrepair. We are thrilled that GMES recently broke ground for a new school to be completed by the fall of 2020. This is an answered prayer for our friends who endure harsh environments every school day. We are called to help the students of George Mason Elementary School as we are called to do justice, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with God.

"It’s relationships—not programs—that change children."

Will you join in building a relationship with a student or a group of students? See below for a variety of ways you can get involved.
