Micah

The Micah Initiative is a partnership between Christ Church & George Mason Elementary School located in Church Hill.

We support the school and their students in many ways including: Tutoring/Mentoring, Class Room Assisting and Special Projects.  If you have an hour or two a week that you can dedicate to sharing your good fortune with others, Micah is a wonderful opportunity for you. If you can’t commit to a weekly visit, please consider joining our special projects team. Whatever your commitment level, we can use your valuable services in supporting George Mason.   For more information contact Rick Steenrod.

Caritas

CARITAS is the largest and most inclusive emergency shelter in central Virginia. Each week the people enrolled in CARITAS will be guests at a church or other house of worship. The church provides 3 meals a day, a place to sleep and other services for the week. Christ Church will serve as the Caritas  host site during the following weeks in 2010:

October 16th-23rd.

Peter Paul Camp

Christ Church has partnered with Peter Paul Development Center  to provide a one week summer camp designed to teach life skills to 20 middle school youth.  The camp was held July 19 - July 23.

Thank you to the many wonderful volunteers who made the Camp a huge success. Thank you  for reaching out to neighbors not so near who are now very near in our hearts.

Rebuilding Together

Rebuilding Together of Richmond is an affiliate of the national Rebuilding Together organization.  It is a volunteer-based program that repairs and rehabilitates homes and non-profit community facilities.  We help low income, elderly, and disabled people who own their homes but are unable to maintain them. The program is centered around a one-day “blitz”, held the last Saturday in April, when over 1500 volunteers each year make both major and minor repairs to qualified homes.  Our focus is to provide warmth, safety, and independence to the elderly and disabled.  We are rebuilding homes, and rebuilding lives. Can you help? Comfort Zone Camp

Comfort Zone Camp is the largest bereavement camp in the nation, helping thousands of families heal after the death of a loved one. Comfort Zone Camps are offered free of charge to children ages 7-17 who have experienced the death of a parent, sibling or primary caregiver. The camps were held last year in California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Virginia and will have camps in Texas in 2010.

Christ Church organized a training session for Comfort Zone Camp volunteers on May 1, 2009. There were approximately 50 new volunteers in attendance. This helps to involve both Christ Church members and other people that would like to volunteer for CZC but are not members of our church. For more information contact Cathy Dyer
