In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus paints a picture of God’s care for us and for all creation. "Do not worry," he says, "about all those things that so occupy your minds. Instead, seek first the Kingdom and its righteousness." All sorts of things compete for our attention, making life more complex than it need be. But Jesus promises a picture of simplicity- put the Kingdom first and trust that the rest will fall into place.
So that’s what we do. We seek first the Kingdom…in our own lives, in the world around us and in Christ Church. We seek it first with how we serve, and how we use the material gifts God has given us. So we open our eyes and hands to experience it, to live it, and to share it right here in Christ Church, in Richmond, and in the world beyond.
During this year’s giving ministry we are asking one another to make a commitment…to make a promise…to stretch and trust and take a next step in our individual generosity so that our dreams may become a reality.Because the work we do as God’s people serves those in need, not just at Christ Church but beyond. And giving generously molds our souls more closely into what God intends. It teaches our children that generosity is a step on the path to meaningful, joyful, and faithful living.
